Our approach

How we’re different

We run a competitive-benchmarking-led process—our approach involves a live look at how your competitors price, package, position and think about product.

  • Pricing
  • Packaging
  • Positioning
  • Product
Traditional consultancies

All other pricing consultancies will spend large sums on expert interviews and quantitative surveys of questionable value, to try to understand what’s happening in the market, and what “willingness to pay” might be amongst a target cohort of customers. Respondents often respond with the answers they think consultants want to hear, to ensure they receive their financial remuneration for taking a survey or call.

Our philosophy

We have a fundamentally different philosophy: Buyers have a finite number of options to choose from amongst you and your competitors, plus the option to choose to do nothing. What matters is not what customers say they will pay, but what they do actually spend already in the marketplace, and what causes them to overcome inertia.

Our method

Our method involves looking directly at how you compare with your competitors on product, pricing, packaging, and positioning. This is akin to looking at the market through the eyes of a buyer. Understanding how a buyer sees you and your competition, and what they like about each, is at the center of all good pricing and GTM strategy.

The outcome

By reverse engineering what is working for each of your competitors, it is possible to build a composite blueprint for what 'best-in-class' looks like for your market, across sales, product and monetization. This provides the template for outcompeting the competition, and is at the heart of why our clients consistently end up capturing market share and increasing enterprise value.

Reading the table

Markets have a lot in common with poker

Without us

Your market is very similar to a game of poker. You play several hands every day against the same group of competitors, and perhaps occasionally a new one may join. Over time, you gather some ‘tells’ about how each competitor plays. But these tells are based on partial data—the equivalent to seeing a few showdown hands.

With us

Our methodology lets you see what cards your competitors are holding, and how they play complete hands. You understand who is aggressive, who is passive, who knows their strengths and plays to them, who underestimates their skill and is more cautious than they should be as a result.

It lets you control the table, just as you should aim to control your market, so that new players are discouraged, and while profits can be shared with some competitors at the table, the lion’s share should go to you.

Finally, we’ve developed our own methodology to provide high-impact, low-cost pricing and GTM support to founders who are disrupting a SaaS vertical.

How we work

We typically begin with a short diagnostic exercise, then run a mystery shopping campaign on a core competitor set. From that data we build and deploy a best-in-class blueprint, followed by structured check-ins to ensure accountability. See how an engagement runs →
